Joshua S. Barnes
Former Associate Director2020 -2021
Joshua Barnes is our Associate Director. He has earned Bachelor’s degrees in both Psychology and Biology at Queens College. He is concurrently the Program Coordinator with the CTL (Center for Teaching & Learning) at Queens College and the Project Coordinator for the HSI-STEM grant at Queens College, assisting with the transition to online learning during COVID-19.
Joshua has been a research assistant (Behavioral Neuroscience) since 2016 studying Alzheimer’s Disease. He has gained valuable experience in the lab and at conferences participating in presentations and posters, with the latest poster presented at the 17th Annual Neuropsychology Research Day (2020). He has also helped judge competitions such as MACUB (Metropolitan Association of College and University Biologists) in both 2018 & 2019. Originally a transfer student from CUNY York College, he has directly experienced the challenges that transfer students face. He believes that articulation agreements between colleges that more completely outline and standardize courses across institutions would allow students higher flexibility, especially within the CUNY system. His professional interests include higher education, neuroscience research, and medicine. Joshua believes that widened articulation agreements and equal access to resources are the most important steps to bridging the gap. A proponent of education, he has helped update the latest Histology Manual for General Biology I at Queens College (2019), currently in use in the General Biology I curriculum at QC. Joshua also continues his position as a peer mentor with the HSI–STEM grant at CUNY Queens College in General Biology I (Cell Biology and Human Physiology, 2018-present). On weekends, he most enjoys the interactions he has with patients as a volunteer in the surgical patient care unit at NYPQH (New York Presbyterian Hospital of Queens). He hopes to pursue a career in medicine to affect change on both individual and systemic levels. |
