Cynthia Kim
Director of Communications Cynthia Kim is our Director of Communications and also currently serves as the interim Associate Director. She has a background in marketing, business development, and education. Currently completing pre-Health course requirements, she has previously served as a Peer Mentor with the HSI-STEM Grant at CUNY Queens College for General Biology I (Cellular Biology & Human Physiology), for the Education Department as a STEM liaison for Teaching Mathematics for Elementary Education Majors, and most recently, Food and Human Microbiology. In response to the move towards online learning, she had also served as a Technology Mentor for CTL (the Center for Teaching and Learning) at Queens College assisting with the transition to online instruction during COVID-19. Professional interests include education/learning, virology, and neuroscience, with a particular interest in how trauma affects individuals.
Cynthia loves solving problems and increasing efficiency. She believes that a firm didactic foundation is one where students have sound infrastructure in elemental concepts upon which knowledge can be scaffolded and scaled upwards. Learning requires self-motivation, and often, self-instruction. Her dream is to equip all students to learn independently, and to see students not merely secure in basic theory but acquire a passion for knowledge, the type of passion that overcomes all obstacles. Passion is integral to growth: when training meets ardent curiosity, all goals become achievable. For her STEM, or STEAM, embodies the concept that proficiency, particularly in the sciences and arts, is reciprocal: interdisciplinary knowledge intensifies understanding. Personal interests include tennis and hiking, languages, music, sewing, and plants. She is a classical violinist by training, enjoys yoga and dancing, and is currently learning ballet. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English. |
